Did you know that 21% of the world’s 8,000 livestock breeds are currently threatened with extinction? Those are sobering numbers – for safeguarding the earth’s biodiversity as well as our agricultural future. Animal preservation and conservation is a compelling topic at Backyard Green Films, so when The Livestock Conservancy contacted us we eagerly jumped on board!

Backyard Green Films

Backyard Green Films packed our gear and traveled to New York, Virginia and North Carolina for interviews, and to shoot PSA footage for The Livestock Conservancy, which was recently awarded a 2016 Top-Rated GreatNonProfits badge. We’re also directing and producing an independent documentary on Heritage Breed Animals, the traditional livestock breeds that our forefathers brought with them hundreds of years ago when our country was first settled. These animals of a bygone era have been carefully selected and bred over time in order to develop qualities that allow them to adapt and thrive in cultural environments and farming practices that are uniquely different than those used in modern-day agricultural.

During the next few months Backyard Green Films will be traveling throughout the United States to conduct additional interviews for the documentary on Heritage Breed Animals, which is currently in production and is scheduled to be released for broadcast next fall.

Many thanks to The Livestock Conservancy for placing their trust in Backyard Green Films. We’re proud to be a part of their ongoing and worthy endeavors in genetic conservation and sustainable agriculture.
